In this blog post, here at The Eventus Recruitment Group, we’re going to take you on a kind of wellbeing tour. Hop on and let’s take a ride….
Firstly, we want to start by asking some questions: “how are you doing?”, “why don’t we talk about mental health?” and “what do we mean by mental health?”.
We all have mental health, and it’s important to think of things in terms of ‘mental fitness’. We can be diagnosed with a mental health condition but can still have good mental health.
Think about your ‘stress response curve’..I’ll explain.. the difference is between stretch (which is a good thing), and strain (which is a bad thing). If there’s a lot of strain over a period of time, then there’s a risk of burning out. Research shows that 44% of all work related illnesses are due to mental health issues. Also, 1 in 5 of us are anxious most of the time. Where are you right now on your ‘stress response curve’? Are you stretched or strained?
We want to finish our trip with you, by sharing some key takeaway actions. Here’s 10 things we can do to contribute to our positive wellbeing:
1. Connect with people. Take time to check in with others.
2. Look out for each other and take the time to listen.
3. Look out for yourself. Choose to do things, or to participate in events that are positive for your mental well-being. Make sure you plan your own down time.
4. Give to others. Make someone else feel good about themselves. From a smile to your time. Give something every day.
5. Keep learning.
6. Take notice of your surroundings. Be in the present.
7. Consider your posture and work environment.
8. Be active.
9. Don’t multi-task (I always put my mobile phone in the other room when I really need to get on with some ‘thinking work’).
10. If you feel stressed or upset, or down, or anxious, or emotionally “flat”. Not even a misplaced sense of ‘pride’ or sense of ‘coping’ should prevent you from chatting to someone. This, we feel, is a very helpful take away point.
