Recruits for all legal roles across North Yorkshire and the North East
How would you describe Eventus Recruitment in 3 words?
Ethical, dedicated, personable.
What do you enjoy most about your role at Eventus?
With my clients, I enjoy being a true business partner, really getting to know the organisation, the people, their growth plans and aspiration and a full understanding of what type of candidates I should match them with in order to make a real impact. I have worked in Legal Recruitment since 2006, and I am proud to have been working with some of my clients since then.
With my candidates, wow – what an integral role we get to play in someone’s life. Not just their career, but being happy (or unhappy) at work impacts your whole existence. I take this role very seriously, and I truly enjoy taking the time to understand a candidate’s requirements, motivators and wishes before trying to match them with their perfect organisation. I’m not a volume recruiter, and I take the time to guide my candidates through every step of the process, whatever they need.
And lastly, but my no means least, as a colleague and a Director at Eventus I also enjoy the impact my role can have on our team. Training, motivating and celebrating the successes of our staff is another wonderful part of my role. I love the team I get to work with, I consider myself very lucky!
How do you switch off and unwind after work?
I think it is important to do “something” at the end of the workday. I always make sure I do some exercise – whether that be a dog walk or a run. I feel it helps me switch off and think about something else after a long day. This is even more important now that I work from home, there is no commute to help separate the day. But if you do have a commute, I feel blasting some music or listening to a podcast can help. I also find cooking helps, in an almost meditative way as well as doing any form of meditation.
What do you like to do outside of work?
My main passions in life are travel, food and my Labrador Meg (not in that order!). I love anything that involves being outdoors – sightseeing, hiking, being dragged up mountains by my husband, exploring new places, eating delicious food (and wine!), trying new experiences and generally attempting to see as much of the world as possible.
Top tip that you would give to a professional who is looking for a new career opportunity?
Explore the market – work with us to identify the organisations that potentially could be a match, and then allow me to arrange meetings where you can explore them for yourself. Don’t just be fixed on “vacancies”, most of the placements we make are tailored to suit the candidate and the opportunity isn’t on the open market. That’s where working with someone with a long history with these clients is a benefit. I know these clients (often placed them or recruited for them numerous times) and I can get you in front of them for an exploratory meeting. But there might not be a role profile, or job description to prep with – this will be about you, and you need to be open and honest about what you want and what you can offer in return.
Top tip that you would give to a business to ensure a robust recruitment strategy?
Be decisive, quick and flexible (is that 3 tips??). We have a saying in recruitment “time kills all deals” and it’s true. Keep the process moving at all times – with CV feedback, arranging interviews quickly, feeding back promptly afterwards and then being decisive with the offer. No-one wants to work for an organisation where decisions take layers of people weeks to make. If your recruitment process feels like this, what is that saying about how difficult it will be when you work there. Candidates want fast-paced and flexible recruitment processes. (Sometimes not forcing a candidate to spend their weekend writing a CV), with open hiring managers who understand they might want to ask as many questions as you do. Especially in this candidate short market – keep it moving!
